Patrick's Visit
I'm back! With so much to share.
Patrick came to visit from Thursday (10/12) evening to Monday (10/16). Maggie went to go visit her cousins during his visit.
I desperately wanted to meet him at the airport but my Spanish Lit class had a make up class that evening that let out right when he landed. So we met at Millennium Park; he took the train from the airport and I took a bus from home. We met at the bean (cloud gate) and walked around the park before heading home.
Friday we went for a run in which I attempted to run a sub 6 minute mile but my actual workout for the day included two, one mile repeats with a half mile recovery jog in between. So he had me wait to try during the second one and my times were 6:27 for the first and 6:10 for the second. I was disappointed but then realized (with Patrick's excited help) that, that was actually quite a feat for me. He then walked me to my precept class (No, he didn't carry my books for me. In fact, I carried his book in my bag!). While in class, Patrick read outside and overheard many passing tour groups, one of which mentioned a Harry Potter-esk library on the top floor of the building my class is in. When I came out we went up to check it out. You're not allowed to take photos but, if you've seen Harry Potter, you've seen this library. More to come on the description of the school ;) I then took him to the social hour and had him meet Clay, the person in the program I have spent the most time with, and a few others. Finally, I took him to Giordano's pizza. Apparently Patrick works with a guy who loves Chicago and goes at least once a year and has even had a pizza overnighted to him. Needless to say we took pictures and I insisted that Patrick go back to work and rub it in this guy's face.
Saturday poured with rain. We went out once to get Patrick a coffee and walked around a soaked park nearby. Otherwise we read and I cooked something in the crockpot and we watched Netflix and I made Mexican hot chocolate and we enjoyed each other's company.
Sunday we went to the Sears Tower (renamed the Willis Tower). The line was nearly two hours long as we waited to ascend. Up there the views were obviously incredible. It reminded me of going to the Empire State Building in New York when I went to visit Kelsey only, the Sears Tower is actually taller! It was a really neat perspective of the city. That night we carved a pumpkin together.
Monday we went for a run and hung out at home until it was time to take him to the airport. It's a little under an hour and a half to the airport from my place and I had a ton of school work so I took the bus with Patrick to Millennium Park and saw him to the train and went home from there.
