Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Chicago dye's its river green for the holiday. They do it at 9AM and people go out to watch as they do it, but I had work (tutoring) until 4PM. So ,even though I was exhausted, I dropped my things off at home and headed downtown so see it before sunset. I met Maggie who had gone downtown for the parade that afternoon. We looked at the river, took some pics, got some food, and then went home (we were both tired). This morning I took the bus downtown again so I could run along the river. Still green!

Working backwards:

Winter quarter is officially over.* I had a twenty page paper for Exploratory Translation, which was just a paper about my thesis, since my thesis is about the translation of Roberto Bolaño's 2666. An 8 pages paper for my Don Quijote in the Americas class. And lastly, a group paper and PPT presentation for the Public Policy Lab. We had to go downtown to Metropolitan Planning Council (MPC) and present our three governance and finance models and my team did a killer job. Though it was not an official class, my thesis felt like an extra class. We had to submit papers of increasing page length intermittently and meet and discuss our work with our thesis groups (peer groups of 4-5 people).

I was moved on to the interview rounds for all five internships I applied for (see previous blog post). So far I have heard back from Brookings, Chicago History Museum, and the GGI Pitch (about working for MPC. The first two are a no-go and I am on a "short" waitlist for the GGI Pitch, so if folks have made other plans for the summer I might still have a chance at that one.

Valentine's day was a free day for residents at the Shedd Aquarium so Maggie and I went. Obviously no aquarium will ever equal up to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but this one was neat because of its focus on rivers and it had a dolphin show!

Deadly icicles!
New exhibit at the Art Institute. Checked it out after my internship interview.
